As part of their continued support towards the health sector in the country, the foundation joins the world to observe the World Breastfeeding Week from August 1st -7th. On the 5th of August, DAQVAH implemented their breastfeeding campaign project in Maboikandu village in Koya Cheifdom. Lactating mothers from Mafonike and Nyagba villages, also benefitted from the project.
During his opening remarks, the CEO of DAQVAH Charity Foundation, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Jalloh, welcomed lactating mothers and briefly explained about the foundation and the breastfeeding campaign project. “The breastfeeding campaign project, is a project that is geared towards providing education on how to breastfeed, emphasize the important of breastfeeding and most importantly provide vulnerable lactating mothers with baby items and toiletries,” he added. Nurse Zainab Barrie explained the importance of breastfeeding. She said that breast milk is a readily available food with the right temperature for any children; adding that breastfeeding is a natural contraception for mothers. She encouraged mothers to ensure that they practice exclusive breatsfeeing, which she said is beneficial for the health of their children. Khadija Bomposseh Kamara, through graphic presentation and illustrations, demostrated the correct ways of breastfeeding. She adviced lactating mothers to always ensure their nipples are clean before breastfeeding.The campaign ended with the distribution of baby items and toiletries to every mother present. Isatu Kamara, a beneficiary said, “I learnt how a lactating mother should position a child while breastfeeding. I felt good after receiving the items, and it was a great opportunity for me to be part of the beneficiaries, I was never expecting such gift this year neither years to come”. Other beneficiaries also thanked the foundation and its members for such a kind gesture.
